The Bethesda-based developer's 26-acre office park in the Shadhy Grove Life Sciences Center is currently approvedffor 669,538 square feet of densitty and the campus currently contains half of or 350,000 square feet. At a May 28 work the Montgomery County Planning Boarxd decided to recommend in its draft Gaithersburg West Mastet Plan that the property be developed with up to twiced asmuch density, or contain up to 1.34 million squarr feet of office, retail and residential space. The southwestr corner of the land currently includeza 272,000-square-foot, three-building complex that houses softwared and pharmaceutical tenants.
The north side of the propertyu contains the Metropolitan RegionalInformational Services' 72,000-square-footr headquarters. Last week, the board also recommended that Danac'sa Corridor Cities Transitway stop be locatexd at or near itsnortheasternh corner, near the intersection of Diamondback Drive and Decoverlyg Drive. That is good news for Danac, since the boar had left out the stop in earlier drafts. The transit stop near the corner may be developecd whether the state retains the current road alignmentt or adoptsthe county's locally preferred alternative.
The board also picked that locatiojn because the northeastern corner is considered to be convenientg for pedestrians from the Decoverlyresidentiapl communities. "We have a long way to go, but we are encouragesd by theplanning board's recommendations," said Timothy Dugan, a Danaxc attorney. Several more work sessions are scheduleed over the nexttwo months, and in July the plannintg board will send its draft master plan to the county executive who will have 60 days to reviee and comment before it is sent to the countu council for deliberations.
